Make an App: Neighborhood Guide

Virtual

Want to tell people what's special about your community, in a way you can update and manage easily on your own? Do you know how to use Google Sheets or Excel? Okay, well, you already know the hard part when it comes to building an app!

In this workshop, we'll be working from a pre-existing set of information based on Buford Highway restaurants, and building a neighborhood guide app for the corridor.

Once we've got the basics squared away, you'll be able to start planning out and creating your very own app from information that you've gathered. The best part? These apps work on any smartphone, no coding required! You'll be able to launch at the end of class and start sharing your brand new app with the world.

What to expect:

  • An overview of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and what they can do

  • Guided introduction of Glide, a PWA platform

  • Free template for creating your own neighborhood guide

Requirements:

  • Make an account on Glide if you have time. We recommend “Signing up with Google” so you have an easier time connecting Google Sheets

  • The Zoom link will be emailed to all participants 30 minutes before the workshop begins. If you have trouble logging in, please reach out directly to the community coordinator for this course at maryk@museumofdesign.org.

She's been featured in Fast Company, Quipsologies, 99U, and HLN – just to name a few! Sarah facilitates classes for organizations like TEDx, DesignMadison, and MODA too. She's a proud mother to an exceptionally good girl named Cocoa, who keeps her company at her desk, and many plants.

  • MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, but don't worry: should MODA have to cancel, we will gladly issue a full refund to all registrants. If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start. By doing so, we can process a refund for the ticket cost (minus a small $10 processing fee per class). Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before an event.‌

  • Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program. Please email maryk@museumofdesign.org with questions or information
