In-person | Ages 21+
Take a voyage to discover how Atlanta became Hip Hop’s center of gravity. Full of visionaries and innovators, it changed the city, popular music, and American culture forever. FOR-EVER-EVER.
This four-week course kicks off with Outkast: The Future Happened: part lecture, part listening party. Dr. Regina Bradley, co-host of Bottom of the Map and author of Chronicling Stankonia, details how Atlanta’s renowned duo created an alternate universe.
From there, learn about The Trap Bang Theory at The Trap Music Museum. A custom tour takes a layered look at how Trap artists address systemic social issues in music and beyond. Then, explore the Hip Hop Place Lab with local makers. See a live demo of the Atlanta Rap Map and create your own prototype of a Hip Hop monument.
The course ends with a night of music at We Make Beats. DJs will spin an all ATL playlist, and you'll even get a lesson on the turntables and a chance to make your own beat.
This course is suitable for ages 21+.
Deadline to register for the course is October 19, 2023.
