The Great Chair Hack Registration

  • Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person at MODA | Ages 16+

Sundays are fun days, so MODA is throwing a party on the second Sunday of the month!

We’ve joined forces with Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), and we’re inviting you to assemble your best team of designers for The Great Chair Hack on March 10th from 1:00 – 5:00 PM! Scroll down to learn more and to register today!

More on The Great Chair Hack

Known for their classic Swedish simplicity, many IKEA products contain components that are simple in form and consistent in their application. This inherent reconfigurability has created an underground movement of “IKEA hacking” where people modify, rebuild, reconfigure and customize IKEA pieces to fit their needs.

In keeping with this trend, teams of students, professionals, artists and/or hackers are invited to explore what a piece of IKEA furniture can become. Teams will be given an IKEA chair and three hours from 1:00 – 3:00 PM to make anything but a chair. At 4:00 PM, projects will be presented to the judges. Prizes for best hacks will be given.

Just assemble your team of 2 – 4 participants and register here. Space is extremely limited, so be sure to register your dream team for a spot by March 4th!

Please note: all teams must pay a small fee of $20 with their registration and read the rules to participate.

More To Do During Sunday Funday!

📣 We’re inviting chair enthusiasts young and old to cheer on the teams re-imagining what an IKEA chair can become in front of MODA!

🎟️ Enjoy reduced admission to the museum!

🪑 Take home a part of our current exhibition, Please Be Seated: A Century of Chair Design by designing your own seats at the table!

Inspired by the Shirley Chisholm quote, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair,” guests will be able to design and decorate a chair that expresses their identity or speaks to something they care about! You are welcome to take home your design, or add it to our shelves in the side gallery if you plan on visiting our exhibition.

Watching The Great Chair Hack is Free.

Participating in The Great Chair Hack is $20 per team.

General admission is reduced to just $5 from 1:00 – 5:00 PM, though children 11 and under are free. Please purchase your ticket(s) upon arrival.
