About This Event:

Craft a journal that’s tactile, expressive, and entirely your own—no clean lines required.

In this hands-on workshop, use reclaimed fabric, thread, and paper scraps to begin building a personal journal or visual diary. There’s no pressure to finish—this is about experimenting, layering, and letting the process lead the way.

Perfect for creatives of all kinds—writers, artists designers and anyone interested in telling stories through material, texture, and form.

Participants will:

  • Work with reclaimed materials provided by Scraplanta

  • Explore techniques for layering, stitching, folding, and assembling pages

  • Use scraps to create expressive covers, inserts, and tactile collages

  • Reflect on memory, identity, and vision—and translate that into visual form.

  • Walk away with a handmade journal-in-progress, ready to grow over time

No experience is necessary. All materials are provided.

Come ready to cut, stitch, layer, and make something meaningful from what others leave behind.

About Symone Gaskin of Scraplanta

About Scraplanta

Scraplanta Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, arts education, and creative expression in Atlanta. Through its creative reuse center, Scraplanta collects and redistributes donated art and craft materials—offering them to the public at 50–75% off retail prices—to reduce waste and remove financial barriers for educators, artists, and makers. With over 166,692 pounds of materials diverted from landfills, Scraplanta empowers the community to turn “trash” into treasures, from movie sets to lampshades. Proceeds support accessible workshops and programs where volunteer artists share skills like bookbinding, collage, and sewing—proving that art can be a tool for joy, healing, and liberation.
