Join MODA for a virtual Afterschool Studio and design hairstyles for manga characters!
In this virtual studio, young designers will start by exploring the fundamentals of hair drawing for manga characters, looking at various textures, lengths, and styles. They'll learn how to convey personality and movement through hair styling and flow.
During the class, students will use digital art to practice drawing different hair types for their manga characters in MediBang Paint. By the end of the session, designers will share their work with the group and practice giving constructive feedback.
In This Afterschool Studio, students will . . .
Learn the basics of drawing hair in manga, including different textures, lengths, and styles.
Practice depicting hair flow and volume to characters.
Learn how to add details, highlights, and shadows to hair for depth and texture.
Transform ideas from sketches to digital art.
Provide a space to share and provide constructive feedback.
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking.
Requirements:
A computer or tablet with internet access
Zoom
MediBang Paint Pro software pre-installed (it’s free!)
A digital drawing tablet is optional, but it makes for easier creating

Earline Johnson is a dedicated educator and accomplished multidisciplinary artist, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Media and a Minor in Art History from Old Dominion University. She brings a diverse set of skills, including ceramics, sculpture, and graphic design, into her role as an Educator at MODA. Her teaching experience includes being an Educator at the Barry Art Museum, Arts Education Manager at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and Visual Arts Teacher in Atlanta Public Schools.

Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program.
