Interior Design Studio: Around-the-World in One Room

Virtual | Ages 13 – 17

Join MODA for a virtual Afterschool Studio as you elevate your design skills and learn about the design of interior spaces from across the globe.

In this virtual studio, young designers will learn about diverse interior styles from cultures that span the globe. Then, they’ll create their own mood board, drawing inspiration from these diverse traditions. Finally, they’ll use the online platform Homestyler to create a 3D model of their dream space.

Along the way, participants will share their ideas with one another and the instructor.


In This Afterschool Studio, you will:

  • learn about diverse interior styles from across the world

  • use a mood board for design planning and brainstorming

  • use Homestyler to make 3D models

  • learn fundamental interior design skills and how to apply them

  • practice giving and receiving kind and constructive feedback

  • practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative

  • problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking

Requirements:

  • A computer or tablet with internet access

  • Zoom

  • A free Canva account (set up before the studio)

  • A free Homestyle account (set up before the studio)

Important Note: Registration for this event ends one hour before the scheduled start time. The Zoom link will be emailed to all participants 30 minutes before the studio begins. If you have trouble logging in, please reach out directly to education@museumofdesign.org.

  • Earline Johnson is a dedicated educator and accomplished multidisciplinary artist, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Media and a Minor in Art History from Old Dominion University. She brings a diverse set of skills, including ceramics, sculpture, and graphic design, into her role as an Educator at MODA. Her teaching experience includes being an Educator at the Barry Art Museum, Arts Education Manager at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and Visual Arts Teacher in Atlanta Public Schools. Earline

  • This event is virtual and will be held over Zoom; participants will receive a link prior to the start of the workshop. If you do not see the link in your inbox, please email education@museumofdesign.org.

  • MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, but don't worry: should MODA have to cancel, we will gladly issue a full refund to all registrants (if applicable). If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start.

  • Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program.
