This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Cabbagetown, focuses on themes of Art & Architecture.

Join Curtis Jackson, the visionary Team Lead of the Krog Codex Archive, for an enlightening tour of "the Cabbagetown Arts Ecosystem," a vibrant collection of public art that spans a dynamic one-mile stretch of Wylie Street. This captivating stretch features a diverse array of interconnected artworks that embody collaboration and synergy with the surrounding neighborhood.

Throughout the tour, you will delve into the significance of these creative expressions and see firsthand how they enhance and enrich the community. Curtis will share insights on the profound impact this ecosystem has on the neighborhood, demonstrating its value beyond mere aesthetics.

You’ll also experience the four pivotal segments of art in this neighborhood:

  • The striking Reynoldstown Style Writing murals

  • The powerful Forward Warrior murals

  • The engaging Stacks Square

  • The iconic Krog Street Tunnel

As you explore, you’ll uncover the rich history of the tunnel and gain a deeper understanding of the flourishing local art scene.

About Walk Leader, Curtis Jackson

Curtis Jackson is a current GSU History PhD candidate who has led the Krog Codex Archive for five years. His areas of study include American youth culture history, urban history, and media/cultural studies. The Krog Codex aligns with his research interests, serving as a digital archive dedicated to the Krog Street Tunnel and its immediate surroundings. The archive focuses on preserving the art, history, and culture of the tunnel for both scholarly work and public interest. As part of their public outreach, Jackson and his team have conducted several tours of the site, including last year's Jane's Walk. They are eager to continue providing public tours to generate interest in the site, its culture, and the archive itself.


Registration

Jane’s Walks are free to attend, but registration is required. Please click the link below to save your spot!

  • The Museum of Design Atlanta is conveniently located in the Midtown Arts District, right across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center at 1315 Peachtree St. NE Atlanta, GA 30309.

    MODA is located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building. The building is a mix use site and is shared by MODA, the Peachtree Public Library, and Perkins+Will.

    MODA resides on the land of the Mvskoke (Muscogee / Creek) people.

    Parking

    MODA does not offer designated parking. There are public parking lots located in the Midtown Arts district, as well as metered parking available along Peachtree St NE. The paid Lanier parking deck at 1337 Peachtree St NE is the closest deck within walking distance of the museum.

    Bike Riders

    For visitors traveling by bike, there are plenty of bike racks conveniently located around MODA! You can find them along Peachtree Street, including right outside of MODA, and at the Arts Center MARTA Station. Don’t forget to bring a lock!

    MARTA

    If visiting by train, take the North or South rail line to the Arts Center MARTA Station (N5), located directly behind the Woodruff Arts Center (accessible). Exit the Arts Center Station at the top level by the Peachtree Street exit. You will be behind the Woodruff Arts Center. MODA is located directly across the street from the Woodruff Arts Center. Use the cross-walk at the intersection of 16th and Peachtree to reach our building.

  • MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met.

    If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us 48 hours prior to the event start.

    By doing so, we can release your seat to another individual interested in joining us for this Jane’s Walk!

  • Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival from May 2-4 honoring the legacy of urbanist, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs with free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities.

    The festival promotes civic engagement and encourages leaders and participants to share stories about their communities and use walking as a means of connecting with their neighbors.
