Virtual | Ages 12 – 17
Love the old-school look of pixel art? Want to create a self-portrait you can use as an avatar or icon?
In this virtual studio, young designers will learn about the art of pixel portraiture using the free program MediBang Paint. We’ll talk about pixel art and its history, then participants will sketch their own self-portraits and translate their sketches into pixel self-portraits. Along the way, participants will share their ideas with one another and the instructor.
In This Afterschool Studio, students will . . .
Learn the history and basic techniques of pixel art
Learn digital art skills including shading, depth, and color theory
Practice expressing ideas using digital art
Practice giving and receiving kind and constructive feedback
Practice collaboration, inclusivity, creative courage, imaginative problem-solving, storytelling, and critical thinking
Requirements:
A computer or tablet with internet access
Zoom
MediBang Paint Pro software pre-installed (it’s free!)
A digital drawing tablet is optional, but it makes for easier creating
