Catalyst: Navigating Ambiguity

  • Museum of Design Atlanta 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

In-person

How can we learn to embrace ambiguity? How can we use the unknown to our advantage, especially when it comes to shaping our futures and creating new opportunities?

Join us for the next session of Catalyst: a series for those who are passionate about design and the ways in which it can change their lives. We’ll dive into the book Navigating Ambiguity, written by Andrea Small, design strategy leader for Samsung Research America's R&D Innovation team, and Kelly Schmutte, a startup founder. Both authors teach at the Stanford d.school.

Facilitated by Kevin Day and Stacey Lee, Impact Design Lab Coordinator and Chief of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA) at the Mount Vernon School, the meet-up will include:

  • An introduction to the book Navigating Ambiguity

  • A discussion of the main ideas in Navigating Ambiguity (reading the book in advance isn’t necessary)

  • Insight from those who leverage ambiguity to make positive changes to their lives and careers

. . . And more! Stay tuned for updates to this page!

About Navigating Ambiguity

We are in an age of ambiguity.

While it’s not easy to confront the unknown, it is now an inevitable part of work and life. In this insightful book, Andrea Small and Kelly Schmutte make the case that ambiguity can be embraced rather than overcome or avoided. Using humor and luscious, cut-paper illustrations, this book presents clear guidelines to discover opportunities and creativity within uncertainty by being adaptable, curious, and unbiased. Imagination is the only prerequisite.

The cost to attend this event is $20.

  • This fee includes a copy of Navigating Ambiguity, valued at $15.

  • Want to pick up your book before the meet-up? Just email Mary at maryk@museumofdesign.org after your register to work that out.
