MODA, the Museum of Design Atlanta, seeks a well-organized, energetic, outgoing, personable, and results-oriented professional who believes in the power of design to make a difference in the world to fill the role of Programs Manager.

The Programs Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing design and educational programs at the museum, including hands-on courses, lectures, panel discussions, tours, and other creative and engaging programs that reflect the mission of the organization. Programming experience and a broad knowledge of Atlanta’s design and cultural landscapes are required, as is a willingness to forge new relationships for the museum. 

Works under the guidance of the Executive Director and in closecollaboration with Visitor Experience Manager and Membership Manager.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Manages volunteers assisting with programs and leads the rest of the MODA team during programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Interpretive and Educational

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to set and enact the vision and goals for public programming

  • Develop programming for the public, including lectures, panel discussion, tours, hands-on activities and others

  • Develop and steward programming partnerships

  • Lead all staff to implement public programs for adults

  • Monitor program attendance and collaborate with other staff to maximize enrollment for all programs

  • Communicate across all museum departments to ensure coordination between programs and broader museum initiatives, including events, operations, marketing, retail, development, and visitor experience

  • Monitor and order inventory of materials and supplies for all museum programs

  • Facilitates the setup, execution, breakdown, and reset for all museum programs and events

  • Prepare reports following each program including narratives and strategies for improvement and share with senior staff

  • Oversee the efforts of all teaching designers, consultants, speakers, and collaborators to ensure familiarity with MODA mission, adherence to MODA policies, and satisfactory performance

  • Ensure that all public programs are executed within their allotted budget.

  • Lead exhibition tours and public programs as necessary

  • Interface up with program participants as requested or necessary

  • Conduct visitor surveys, assessments, interviews, and evaluations to measure museum programs' effectiveness, outcomes, and impact

  • Ensure that programs offered each month earn enough revenue to meet MODA budget

  • Collaborate with Membership Manager to ensure that programs offer benefits for member and complement member programming

  • Use task management systems to organize and track progress in planning and implementation of all programs 

Marketing and Public Outreach

  • Assist with publishing museum programs on the website

  • Assist with social media and e-blast communications related to public programming and other museum events

     

General Responsibilities

  • Welcome and accommodate all visitors to provide the best possible museum experience

  • Prepare the museum for opening each day and help to ensure that closing tasks are done, and the museum is in good shape for the next day

  • Greet visitors with radical friendliness and welcome all museum and event guests by orienting them to the museum’s spaces, answering questions, addressing customer service needs, diplomatically resolving problems, and providing up-to-date information on exhibits, programs, events, and activities.

  • Convey the mission, vision, and values of MODA and explain museum programs and exhibits to the public

  • Sell tickets, memberships, and store merchandise

  • Interact with guests in museum galleries and at museum events

  • Assist in monitoring the security of exhibitions and responding calmly and professionally to any emergency

  • Help to maintain the museum store

  • Ensure that the museum stays neat and clean during the day

  • Assist with private events at MODA and advocate for attendees to become members

  • Support new and existing museum staff by conducting regular trainings, meetings, mentoring, coaching, and professional development, particularly regarding programs

  • Ensure the highest customer service and hospitality level is maintained for all museum visitors, programs, and events.

  • Represent MODA externally and internally

  • Assist with planning and implementing special events, including fundraising events, VIP receptions, and events

  • Other duties as requested

Desired Qualifications

  • BA in design, art, museum studies, art administration, or related field

  • Experience working in a museum

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends

  • Experience with graphic design and the creation of marketing materials

  • Experience in supporting a strategic marketing/communication plan

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience maintaining a website

  • Excellent social media skills

  • Outgoing and interested in engaging with the general public 

  • Some lifting and prolonged standing required

  • Knowledge of AV equipment

Salary and Benefits

  • The starting salary for this position is $40,000

  • Benefits include health care after 90 days

  • PTO and sick leave
