Minecraft Studio: Growing Green

Virtual | Ages 8 – 14

In this Minecraft Afternoon Studio, participants will learn about the use of gardens throughout history as not only a source of food but also a way to build sustainable cities. From urban gardens to food barges, participants will learn about the ways people are using gardens to build and protect their communities as well as try and fight food deserts.

Then, we'll head over to the MODA Minecraft server to add to the existing neighborhood created in previous classes to collaboratively design gardens in our sustainable city on the MODA Minecraft server!

In this Afterschool Studio, students will . . .

  • Collaborate with others to design and build community gardens

  • Learn about the history of urban gardens and farms

  • Practice using empathy in the design process

  • Learn about climate change and how gardens are used to combat it

  • Strengthen creativity

  • Build resilience

Requirements:

  • A Mac or PC with a strong connection to the internet. PLEASE NOTE: Minecraft Java Edition will not work on Chromebooks, tablets, or phones.

  • Minecraft Java Edition, $29.99 (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition).
