Threads of Change Field Trip

For Grades K – 12

During this in-museum field trip, a MODA instructor will guide students through an exploration of the effects of climate change on plants, animals, and ecosystems and how artists use their work to advocate for change. Students will learn how art can communicate powerful messages, inspire awareness, and encourage action for nature’s preservation.

After discussing examples of advocacy art, including works by artists like Christine & Margaret Wertheim and Agnes Denes, students will participate in a hands-on activity. During the activity they will design paper quilt squares inspired by environmental issues such as animal protection, ocean conservation, or reducing pollution.

Along the way, we’ll practice thinking like designers by focusing on empathy, storytelling, and creative problem-solving to advocate for a more sustainable future.

Please email Leslie Yarborough at education@museumofdesign.org with any questions.
