IDSA Atlanta Chapter: World Industrial Design Day Poster Design Competition
Call for Poster Designs: At IDSA Atlanta, we are joining the celebration and are making a CALL FOR POSTER DESIGNS! All submitted posters will be printed by IDSA and exhibited at their next gathering on June 29th 6:00PM at West Egg Cafe located at 1168 Howell Mill Road NW Atlanta, GA 30318-0516. At the gathering, all attendees will vote on the best design. To submit your poster design, please meet the following details: click here.

CampMODA 2010

CampMODA 2010
MODA will offer SEVEN (7) week-long sessions of campMODA 2010. The first session will begin on Monday, June 14. The final session will begin on Monday, July 26. PROGRAMS: Up to three (3) of the following programs will be offered during each session of campMODA 2010: (1)LEGOtastic: Campers will use Lego Building Systems to explore the relationship and interdependency of form, function, and special relationships. (2) Enviro-Coke: Using materials provided by The Coca-Cola Company, campers will create designs using repurposed materials, allowing them to explore alternative uses for existing materials. (3) Beads & Baubles: Campers will work with various media—beads, colored thread, wire, etc.—to design and fabricate both gender-specific and unisex jewelry. Camp will run from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Early drop-off will begin at 8:00 AM. After-care will be provided from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM for an additional charge of $75 per camper per week. To register click here.

Scissors Obsession: Figure/Figuration
Sculptor Delona Wardlaw investigates manipulates and re-creates common, everyday objects as way of storytelling. Through her bronze pieces and assemblages she intends to uncover the layers of meaning held in each object. In this exhibition Wardlaw will explore her ongoing obsession with scissors as a tool, as a composition, and as a receptacle for memory.

The Art of Ichiyo Ikebana: Japanese Floral Design
The accomplished designer Akihiro Kasuya, Headmaster of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana, assisted by his son Naohiro, will create a site-specific display that examined the creative art of arranging for big spaces. The exhibit will provide insight into Kasuya’s creative process and to his unique way of constructing a gallery design that takes floral art to a high level of contemporary sophistication.

Waterways
The Atlanta Chapter of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana will create an exhibition of contemporary Ichiyo Ikebana inspired by water to accompany the work of Headmaster Akihiro Kasuya. This showcase of contemporary Ikebana as interpreted by local artists will speak through a strong emphasis on modern and creative three-dimensional design and generate new interest in the traditional asymmetrical forms of Ikebana.

Observations on Japanese Architects
Observations on Japanese Architects hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This exhibition, curated by Argentine designers Norberto Feal and Anabella Gatto, is dedicated to the presentation of emerging Japanese architects and their work. The multi-media exhibition celebrates experimental and innovative methodologies undertaken in recent years. The observations are present through the grouping of projects into three typologies: “white/black”, “skin/metal”, and “classical/monstrous”.

A Japanese Evening
MODA invites you to a Japanese evening at Yo Shin So, the home of Tom and Sarah Rodgers to celebrate The Art of Ichiyo Ikebana. There will be sake/wine tastings, Japanese musicians and entertainment. Guests will be invited to tour the Japanese gardens, koi ponds, sculpture gardens and Japanese-style home. You will have an opportunity to meet Headmaster Akihiro Kasuya and his son Naohiro Kasuya from Tokyo’s Ichiyo School of Ikebana. A traditional Japanese dinner will be served.

The cost is $100 per person, $75 for MODA Members. All proceeds benefit MODA.

Serving Form
Industrial designer and artist, Kristofer Laméy creates works of art through a delicate balance of hand and machine. Serving Form will showcase Laméy’s approach to his innovative site-specific work. October 26 through 30 Laméy will be demonstrating his work daily at MODA. Through demonstrations he will be able to show guests how his work performs in context.
